Work In Process or WIP
A WIP (work in progress) is like an advanced to-do list item. It is an organized way to assign work to yourself and/or your team, set a deadline, and ensure that it gets done. When you create a WIP item, you always specify what you’re tracking (a task type), which project it is for, the start and deadline dates, and which team will manage it. When you create your WIP item and click submit, you’ll be able to add files and pictures, notes, and a to-do list for that WIP by clicking “show more,” in the bottom left corner of the card. Additionally, you can access any related docs or departmental checklists, edit the start and deadline dates, assign it to a different project, and copy that WIP item.
Since WIP items are always linked to a project, you’ll need to create a project before a WIP item can be submitted. You can do this directly from the project page, or you can do it as you create your WIP item. To do this, click on the plus sign in the top left corner of the WIP page. Then, click “+Add Project,” from the card you are creating.
These items are engaged in transactions and you would lose the integrity of the transaction if they were erased from the system.
You can close or cancel a WIP to remove it from your WIP page. To do so, click the three dots in the top right corner of the WIP card and then select either “close,” or “cancel.”
You can remove a client/vendor/employee, a contact, a site, or a project, from view by deactivating the card. Do so by clicking the edit button in the top right corner of the card, then click the checkbox next to “is active.”
Having a WIP linked to a project helps you track your progress on a project, track all of the important details, and track KPIs.
